The Simple Past Tense
Pattern of Negative Sentences

Negative of the Simple Past Tense is formed with the help of did + not (didn’t)

  • ‘did not’ or ‘didn’t’ is used soon after the Subject of the sentence.


Thus,
Subject + did not/didn’t + V-1 + other words.
‘did’ itself is the past form that’s to say ‘did’ is V-2 so with ‘did’ only V-1(base form) of the main verb is used.

  2. We didn’t buy new novels this year.
  3. You didn’t invite me in your birthday party yesterday.
  4. They didn’t reach in time.
  5. Two students didn’t do homework.
  6. He didn’t send me any news last week.
  7. She didn’t prepare children.

  9. Sir didn’t punish me for my fault.
  10. The reporter didn’t publish an article last month.
  11. The patient didn’t take medicine in time.
  12. It didn’t rain here.
  13. Boys didn’t finish their supper.
  14. The sun didn’t appear in the cloudy morning.
  15. A car driver didn’t give a single paisa to a beggar.
