Pattern of Negative Sentences
Negative of the Simple Past Tense is formed with the help of did + not (didn’t)
- ‘did not’ or ‘didn’t’ is used soon after the Subject of the sentence.
Thus,
Subject + did not/didn’t + V-1 + other words.
‘did’ itself is the past form that’s to say ‘did’ is V-2 so with ‘did’ only V-1(base form) of the main verb is used.

- We didn’t buy new novels this year.
- You didn’t invite me in your birthday party yesterday.
- They didn’t reach in time.
- Two students didn’t do homework.
- He didn’t send me any news last week.
- She didn’t prepare children.
