Active - Passive Introduction and Importance of Passive Voice

What is Active Voice ?


  • If a sentence begins with a Subject and a Verb follows according to the Subject, it is called Active Voice.
  • Here the doer does something and performs an action or doer is agent and thus doer plays an active role so it is called Active
Ex. You learn English daily. (AV)

What is Passive Voice?


  • If a sentence begins with an Object and a Verb follows according to the Object but here the Object isn't an agent, it is called Passive Voice.
  • Here the doer doesn't do anything but an action is done upon the Object.
Ex. English is learnt by you daily. (PV)

Importance and Use of Passive Voice.


  • If an action which is performed is important, Passive Construction is used.
  • If 'doer or subject' isn't at center but an object, Passive Voice is used.
  • If 'doer or subject' is unknown, it is better to use Passive Voice.
  • When we want to emphasize on the Action or on Object, Passive Voice is a must.
Ex. 
  1. English is spoken all over the world.
  2. News papers read daily.
  3. In this website, only English Learning related material is uploaded.
  4. Two new invention have been made.
  5. You will be informed day after tomorrow.
  6. Are street swept daily in your area?
  7. Stars can't be counted.
  8. National flags/anthem must be honoured.
  9. How many rupees are charged for entry?
  10. English must be learnt.
