    Ø   What is Verb ?

    Þ A word which indicates an action in a sentence is called a verb.
    Þ A verb shows action.

    Ex.       ‘Go’ which indicates an action of going.
    ‘Write’ which indicates an action of writing.
    ‘Jump’ which indicates an action of jumping.
    ‘Shout’ which indicates an action of shouting.
    ‘Throw’ which indicates an action of throwing.
    ‘Run’ which indicates an action of running.
    ‘Thing’ which indicates an action of thinking.

    • I write one post daily.
    • In above sentence, ‘write’ is a verb.

    Ø  How many forms has a Verb?

    Þ A verb has five forms according to its use in Tenses.

    Ex.       Base form or V-1
                Past Tense(pt) or V-2
                Perfect Participle(pp) or V-3
                Verb with s/es
                Verb with ing
    Examples:
    V-1 go/ask/write/teach
    V-2 went/asked/wrote/taught
    V-3 gone/asked/written/taught
    V-s/es goes/asks/writes/teaches
    V-ing going/asking/writing/teaching etc

    Ø  Use of Verbs

    Þ  Various forms of the verb as mentioned above are used in the tenses as shown below.

    V-1 or Base form: write/ask/teach etc
                Simple Present/Future/Modals Tenses - Affirmative/Negative/Interrogative/Neg+Interro
                Simple Past Tense - Negative/Interrogative/Neg+Interro.
                Imperative - Affirmative/Negative

    V-2 or Past Tense(pt):wrote/asked/taught etc
                Simple Past Tense – Affirmative

    V-3 or Perfect Participle: written/asked/taught etc
                All of Perfect Tenses - Affirmative/Negative/Interrogative/Neg+Interro
                Passive of all Tenses - Affirmative/Negative/Interrogative/Neg+Interro

    V-s/es form: writes/asks/teaches etc
                Simple Present Tense – Affirmative (with only He/She/It/Singular subject)

    V-ing form: writing/asking/teaching etc
                All of Continuous Tenses - Affirmative/Negative/Interrogative/Neg+Interro
                All of Perfect Continuous Tenses  - Affirmative/Negative/Interrogative/Neg+Interro
